2021, the Best Year of Mattel Performance in Toys
Mattel Board’s Chairman and CEO Ynon Kreiz has repeatedly stated that Mattel will be built into an IP-driven high-growth company. The company's performance in 2021 fully justifies this strategy.
Mattel's net income was $5.458 billion in 2021, an increase of 19% year-on-year; business profit reached $730 million, growth of 94.7%, compared with a year earlier. It is worth noting that the company's net profit increased by $779 million from $124 million in 2020 to $903 million in 2021, realizing a growth of 631%. It’s Mattel's second consecutive year of profitability since turning losses into profits in 2020, setting the best performance in recent years.
Mattel’s toy business had total revenue of US$6.08 billion, an increase of 18% year-on-year; in terms of categories, action figures, building blocks, games and other categories saw the highest increase in total sales, up 32% year-on-year.
